Solution 1407 : Wireless: Tempest 3.0 Network Number Setting changes for multiple systems
 
Until now Tempest systems that have utilized multiple Base Stations have been configured with Network Numbers that were separated by four such as 1, 5, 9, 13, 17… or 23, 27, 31, 35, 39… and so on. With Tempest version 3.0 and the implementation of ZSync technology this has changed dramatically. It is extremely important that any system that is used with ZSync technology utilize the new method of organizing Network Numbers. Not doing so will cause system performance to suffer and may cause the system to be completely non-functional from an RF and roaming perspective. Even systems that are not using ZSync technology should utilize the new method of assigning Network Numbers to maintain consistency as there is no negative connotation to doing so and it will help performance to some degree.

Network Numbers must now be assigned in predefined groups of numbers. Any number contained in one of these groups is coordinated with any other number in that particular group. The Network Numbers and groups vary depending on what RF Band is selected in the BaseStation. (It is important to note again that all BaseStations in a roaming system must be set to the same Radio Band setting.) Group 1 in Radio Band 1 is very different from Group 1 in Radio Band 3 and the two may not be used together as poor RF performance will result.






























There are four groups utilizing 43 Network Numbers for use in Radio Band 1. There are four groups utilizing 27 Network Numbers for use in Radio Bands 2, 3 and 4. There are four groups utilizing 15 Network Numbers for use in Radio Bands 5, 6 and 7. Utilizing Network Numbers contained completely in one group will result in virtually no Base Station to Base Station interference among those particular Tempest Base Stations. Remember though, Group 3 in Radio Band 1 is very different from Group 3 in Radio Band 6. The same goes for any group number that is in a different Radio Band.

Other Network Numbers beyond the numbers shown in the tables above are redundant and should not be used. These numbers are no longer shown in the Tempest Base Station Network Number menu, but existing Base Stations using older Firmware could still have these settings. When upgrading those Base Stations to 3.0 firmware the older Network Number settings will be preserved, but only the valid choices will be shown in the menu as options.

1) Radio Band 1 – NN 0-42 are good – Do not use 43-63, these are redundant
2) Radio Bands 2, 3 and 4 – NN 0-26 are good – Do not use 27-63, these are redundant
3) Radio Bands 5, 6 and 7 – NN 0-14 are good – Do not use 15-63, these are redundant

VERY IMPORTANT! It is extremely important that any system that is used with ZSync technology utilize the new method of organizing Network Numbers. Not doing so will cause system performance to suffer and may cause the system to be completely non-functional from an RF perspective.
